There is a substantial network of intercity buses in Japan. Buses of this country depart on the timetable. Most of long distance services run as the night bus. Intercity buses are popular transport which enable us to save both of money and time because they are cheaper than trains and there are very few night trains in this country. On the other hand, most of long distance services do not accept short distance passengers by having a rule that they only pick up passengers in the first half of the journey and set down passengers in the latter half. The rule about the maximum size of belongings seems to be a little tighter than other countries. Carriers in Hokkaido are relatively generous about your folding bicycle, ski or snowboard put in a case (Even if extra may be needed). In other area, carriers may make an efforts to carry your large belongings. But the answer will depend on the number of passengers and size of trunk room of the bus. Anyway, if you have large belongings, ask about their own rules about belongings before making a reservation. Though the driving and road surface of this country is smooth, in general, they have an exemption clause on large belongings. Banding your belongings to the roof of buses is prohibited.
